CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

GETTING STARTED: An Introduction to Fusing Glass

Before you could walk you learned to crawl and before you can create glass art you have to learn to cut glass – safely, effectively and efficiently. In this introductory class you will learn the basics of glass cutting using a variety of tools and materials. With ample practice and helpful hints you will be slicing and dicing like a top chef and ready to begin building with glass.

While learning basic concepts of glass fusing, you will create a 5” square plate (or tile) and a handful of 1” square pieces (that you can use as magnets) that you can use to experiment with different techniques and materials. Some of the concepts discussed will include kiln forming (how your design will behave at different temperatures) as well as how various shapes are created and most importantly, how volume (or the amount of glass used) affects design.

You will have access to clear, transparent, opalescent, and patterned glass, frit and stringer. All tools, materials and kiln firings needed for your class project are included in the class and materials fees. Class projects will be available for pickup one week following the date of class.

Class Fee $30 / Material Fee $28
